The following scholarships are available for regular international students. Exchange students cannot apply for them.
All scholarships, except the Japanese Government Scholarships will be awarded only to students who have been selected through the on-campus selection procedures of Oita University after their arrival in Japan.
1. Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship
- \145,000 per month (Doctor students)
- \144,000 per month (Master students)
- \143,000 per month (research students)
- \117,000 per month (undergraduate students)
- Scholarships for Postgraduate Students and Research students - Applications should be made to the Japanese Embassy in the country of residence. Alternatively, the Japanese university to which students apply for admission recommends to the Japanese government those who should be selected for grants.
- Scholarships for Undergraduate Students - Applications should be made to the Japanese Embassy in the country of residence: the embassy usually recommends to the Japanese government those who should be selected for the grants. For undergraduate students in their last year of study in university/college, the Japanese university to which they apply for admission recommends to the Japanese government those who should be selected for the grants.
2. Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarships
- \48,000 per month (graduate students)
- \48,000 per month (undergraduate students)
- Applications are invited in April. Scholarships are granted for a year.
3. Oita University International Exchanges and Academic Promotion Fund
- \20,000 per month
- Applications are invited twice a year, spring and fall. For those who commence in April, scholarships are granted for a year, but for the October entry they are granted for only 6 months and should be made to the university.
4. Oita Prefecture Scholarship
- \30,000 per month
- Applications are invited in April. Students are required to do some activities for a community.

Registration Procedure for Ranking Recommendations.
- Students who wish for a scholarship must apply first.
- Rank of recommendation will be determined by a committee, and it is based on the following points: applicant's academic record, student status, tuition waiver, financial need, and housing situation.
- Applicants of each scholarship will be informed by e-mail from the international office.
- Students cannot apply for another scholarship while selecting.
- Students can receive only one scholarship during one academic year.
Exemption from Tuition Fees
Graduate and undergraduate degree students with financial difficulties and excellent achievement may be allowed 50% or 100% remission of the tuition fee.
